The first is technical prowess and proficiency. We look for people who may already have some certifications and training through the IDEA. However, if a potential candidate does not have this, we are able to train them. At Metro, education and training is very important to us. All of our technicians are on a route to becoming a certified “Master Technician” through the IDEA’s training program if they aren’t already. We fund our technician’s educational goals where many other garage door companies might not. We like to give our techs a strong footing in the industry, a resumé boost, and an air of professionalism. At the end of the day, we want our customers to leave every experience with our technicians feeling that they interacted with a true professional.
While technical proficiency is very important, it can be trained. However, you can not train someone to have strong character. We look for people who will be trustworthy as an employee and a service provider. At Metro, honesty is one of the cornerstones of our business, without it, everything else fails. We need to be able to trust that our employees will always do the right thing and will work in the best interests of the customer every time. Our technicians are not paid commission, they are rather given bonuses for every five star review they earn in the field when a customer mentions them by name. Customer service and interpersonal communication skills are always at the forefront of importance when we are hiring new candidates.
