What types of rollers are available?
Garage door rollers are in instrumental part of making sure that your doors open and close with ease. Rollers attach your doors to the garage door tracks and allow it to run smoothly. There are two types of garage door rollers. Builder grade rollers are constructed of hard plastic or steel with no ball bearings. These rollers tend to wear out quickly and need to be replaced more often. Upgraded or commercial rollers are constructed of nylon and have ball bearings, as a result, they are higher quality and last longer with regular maintenance. At Metro Garage Door, we utilize commercial quality rollers, even with residential clients. We believe in giving you the best quality and “bang for your buck” every time.
What kind of maintenance is necessary?
Regular maintenance is essential to keep your doors running smoothly and keep your parts working as long as possible. Rollers should be inspected every 3-4 months or twice a year at minimum to ensure they are properly lubricated and are not showing signs of wear.
Is it time to replace?
The roller should be firmly attached in the shaft and should not wiggle. If either of these issues are present, it is time to replace the rollers. You also want to make sure that the roller spins freely in the shaft, if it locks up or feels as if it is grinding, then it is time to replace the rollers. If the roller is cracked or missing chunks of material, that is grounds for replacement as well.
